Flaps panels usually come without transducers or command sensor unit (CSU) as Airbus calls it! In the CSU unit there are four 5-track switches for sending the flap detent position signals. Even without CSU there is still a control lever mechanism attached to panel with mechanical transmission that ends with rotary axis where original CSU drive shaft attaches. That is the spot for potentiometer.
What was puzzling me where the internal notches at axis. I was thinking too much about something that would fit those notches exactly! That didn’t make sense so in the end I improvised.
